Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar is increasing pressure on President Tamás Sulyok. The deadline set by Magyar for Sulyok’s voluntary resignation expires at midnight, according to Euronews.
Sulyok refuses to resign. He cites the Venice Commission, an advisory body of the Council of Europe on constitutional matters. Magyar, in turn, is stepping up political pressure on the president.
The power struggle between the new prime minister and the president is part of a larger political upheaval in Hungary. Magyar replaced Viktor Orbán’s long-standing government in the parliamentary elections in April 2026.
