Ukraine: Small air defense shot down over 3,500 Russian drones in May

Ukraine's 'small air defense' destroyed more than 3,500 Russian drones in May, according to Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi. He also warned of a new Russian tactic: Moscow plans to increase the share of jet-powered attack drones to 50 percent.

Ukraine’s so-called small air defense shot down more than 3,500 Russian drones in May, Ukrainska Pravda reported, citing Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi. According to Syrskyi, Russia also plans to increase the share of jet-powered attack drones to 50 percent.

The second echelon of air defense, operated by the Unmanned Systems Forces, intercepted over 1,200 enemy drones in May. Army aviation destroyed more than 440 Russian drones, according to its own data. Ukraine is working on establishing a fourth echelon of air defense to cover two more regions.
