In a shelter for homeless people in Berlin’s Reinickendorf district, 185 people receiving welfare benefits are officially registered, even though the facility only has 140 beds. According to Tagesspiegel, job centers therefore carried out a large-scale operation to verify who actually lives in the accommodation.

The inspection aims to prevent welfare fraud and clarify whether all registered residents actually live on site. The shelter is one of several facilities in Berlin facing occupancy pressure.
