Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyj sees Ukraine as having superiority in drone warfare. According to Ukrinform, the general commented on his country’s military capabilities in Russia’s war of aggression. The statement comes at a time when Ukraine is under pressure at the front but is making technological progress.

Syrskyj’s assessment comes as Ukrainian forces struggle with shortages of artillery ammunition and air defense. German General Christian Freuding, military chief coordinator for Ukraine aid, had previously emphasized Ukraine’s tense situation. Russia holds the initiative along most of the over 1,000-kilometer front line, Freuding told dpa.

At the same time, Freuding stressed Ukraine’s determination to defend itself. Ukrainian strikes deep behind enemy lines target command centers, logistics facilities, airfields, and the Russian Black Sea Fleet. Syrskyj himself briefed Freuding and General Carsten Breuer on the front-line situation during a meeting in Kyiv and thanked them for their support.

Ukraine is increasingly relying on drones to repel Russian attacks and support its own advances. Technological development in this area is seen as key to offsetting Russia’s superiority in conventional artillery. Syrskyj’s statement underscores the strategic importance of this weapon category for Ukraine’s defense.
