Lewus, a member of the European Solidarity (ES) party, takes over the mandate of Stepan Kubiw, who died suddenly in May at the age of 65. Kubiw was a lawmaker of the 9th convocation. The next candidate on the ES list, Denys Pjatyhorez, had declined the seat, so Lewus, as number 29, moved up.
The 45-year-old previously served as a lawmaker of the 8th convocation from 2014 to 2019 for the Narodnyj Front party. At that time, he chaired the subcommittee on state security within the Verkhovna Rada’s Security and Defense Committee. Lewus became known for his role in the Revolution of Dignity in 2013/14, where he led the command post of the Maidan self-defense forces.
In 2021, the High Anti-Corruption Court acquitted him in a housing compensation case. The prosecutor’s office had appealed the verdict. Lewus had been accused of illegally receiving compensation for housing during his time as a lawmaker.
