The Ukrainian attacks targeted bridges essential for supplying Russian troops in the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions. The crossings connect the occupied Crimea to the mainland and lie dozens of kilometers from the front line. According to the 1st Independent Assault Regiment, the targets were struck last week.
The attacks used new medium-range drones of the FP-2 and Hippo types, carrying explosive and thermobaric warheads. The military emphasized that these systems are relatively cheap to produce compared to long-range drones. Some operations were coordinated with other Ukrainian units, including the Alpha elite unit of the SBU security service.
The bridges are effectively the “only supply route” for Russian forces from Crimea to the southern front, Ukrainian military personnel said. The systematic strikes could significantly impair the logistics of the Russian grouping. Footage posted on social media shows the drones hitting the bridge decks.
