According to NDR, the 42-year-old industrial engineer from the Duchy of Lauenburg district was elected without opposition. The party later corrected the initially reported result of just over 95 percent because abstentions had not been taken into account.

Vogt has been a member of the state parliament since 2009, parliamentary group leader since 2017, and state chairman since 2024. In his nomination speech, he emphasized: “The FDP is alive” and pointed to around 70 new members in recent weeks. The party now counts nearly 2,800 members in the state.

Vogt sharply criticized the black-green state government: it has “no agenda for the state” and, with its goal of climate neutrality by 2040, endangers the business location. He said he does not want to leave the state to a “self-satisfied” government, “and certainly not to the crackpots and agitators from the left and right fringes.”
