Colonel Simon Vooda, a representative of the Dutch Defense Ministry, said in an interview in The Hague, as reported by Ukrinform. He stressed that Ukraine is far ahead in integrating unmanned systems into military concepts – primarily due to its practical combat experience. The Ukrainian armed forces learn daily and are still only at the beginning of a new form of warfare that must effectively combine manned and unmanned systems.
According to Vooda, drones will become an indispensable part of every army in the future, but will not replace classic weapons like battle tanks; rather, they will complement them. The Netherlands is closely following Ukraine’s experience in the war against Russia and is cooperating with the Ukrainian armed forces on unmanned systems. This involves not only technology but also the conceptual use of all types of drones – air, ground, and sea platforms.
The colonel emphasized that despite having fewer resources and personnel, Ukraine is changing the rules of engagement through its high speed of adaptation. Dutch knowledge, research institutions, and technology companies could further strengthen this innovation process. Earlier, Ukrinform reported that the Netherlands had handed over another military aid package to Ukraine, including over 60 Toyota Hilux pickups and modern drone systems.
