The Ukrainian 34th Independent Marine Brigade has pushed Russian occupiers from a part of the islands between Kherson and the temporarily occupied Oleshky. Brigade commander Dmytro Pulinez said this in an interview with the Krym.Realiji project of Radio Svoboda, published on June 13.
The affected islands are Oleksiivski, Kruhlyk, Korabeliv, and Potomkinskyi. According to Pulinez, Ukrainian units managed to cut Russian logistics in the area and expand the so-called kill zone. “Logistics were cut, the kill zone expanded. The Russians had a base there at the Konkivsky road bridge, where they always gathered and stayed – but today and yesterday that didn’t work anymore,” the commander said.
Russian forces are still trying to push Ukrainian marines off the islands, but so far without success. Pulinez stressed that Russian units had previously held the islands, but now the Ukrainian marines have taken control. The 34th Brigade also holds positions on the left bank of the Dnipro River, which are supplied exclusively by air with provisions and ammunition. Observation posts there serve to prevent the enemy from crossing the river.
