Rescuers have extinguished fires on the grounds of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra monastery and the Arsenal. According to Ukrainska Pravda, citing the State Emergency Service (DSNS), about 800 square meters burned on the monastery grounds and 1,000 square meters at the Arsenal. The fires were caused by Russian strikes on the capital.
A Russian Shahed drone hit the altar area of the Dormition Cathedral of the Lavra. Emergency workers evacuated sacred items – icons, antimensions, and liturgical vessels. The monastery grounds remain temporarily closed. The civilian death toll from the massive Russian attack on Kyiv rose to five, with 34 people injured, including two children.
In response to the attack, Ukraine initiated procedures with UNESCO and other international mechanisms. The Lavra is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Firefighting and recovery operations continue at three other locations where Russian forces struck civilian and residential infrastructure.
