The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has confirmed that Russia attacked the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra (Kyiv Monastery of the Caves) with a Geran-2 drone. The strike occurred on June 15 at 01:50 during a massive shelling of the Ukrainian capital. Analysis of the debris revealed that components of the drone were manufactured in Russia’s Alabuga, as indicated by markings on the fragments.

The drone hit the St. Stephen’s side altar of the Dormition Cathedral on the monastery grounds. The roof, domes, walls, and glazing of the cathedral were damaged. According to the SBU, there were no fatalities or injuries. The blast wave also damaged nearby civilian buildings in the Pechersk district of Kyiv.

The SBU has opened criminal proceedings under Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (war crimes). The Geran-2 is the Russian version of the Iranian Shahed kamikaze drone.
