On Monday afternoon, passersby alerted the Dortmund fire department after spotting the child on the roof of an apartment building. When emergency services arrived with police, the girl was sitting in the rain gutter and repeatedly leaning forward, according to the incident commander. Rescuers described the situation as life-threatening.

In addition to a turntable ladder, rescue crews set up a safety cushion as a precaution. At the same time, police and firefighters gained access to the top-floor apartment, where the child’s mother opened the door—she had been unaware of the incident. The girl was eventually brought to safety using the turntable ladder.

Emergency medical services and psychological crisis care provided support to the family; all were taken to a hospital as a precaution. The operation lasted about half an hour.
