The new units will be equipped with necessary weapons, equipment, and other resources. The decision comes amid ongoing tensions with Russia and its ally Belarus.
Recently, Belarusian journalists reported that Russia has built five new launch sites for Shahed drones near the border with Belarus. Satellite images show new drone launch pads in Russia’s Bryansk, Oryol, and Smolensk regions.
Andriy Demchenko, spokesperson for the Ukrainian State Border Guard Service, told RBC-Ukraine that engineering work is underway both directly at the border and in the hinterland, involving the armed forces and local authorities. President Volodymyr Zelensky had previously warned of several possible escalation scenarios involving Belarus.
