The Dormition Cathedral in the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, a UNESCO World Heritage site, was heavily hit during the night attacks. Ukrainian Culture Minister Tetiana Bereschna called the strikes one of the largest attacks on Ukrainian culture since the start of Russia’s invasion more than four years ago.
Damage to the cathedral amounts to over nine million euros, and restoration is expected to take two years. The cathedral is considered one of the most significant monuments of early 11th-century architectural art and is an important center of Orthodox Christianity.
The Ukrainian Air Force reported that Russia launched 70 missiles and 611 drones at Ukraine overnight, hitting Kyiv and other cities such as Kharkiv and the Kherson region. At least eleven people were killed in these attacks.
