Until now, the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament had also sent opposition representatives to the broadcasting council of Südwestrundfunk (SWR). In the current election, however, the AfD remained without a seat. The Greens instead received two other posts.
The decision comes in a political environment shaped by the upcoming state election in Rhineland-Palatinate on March 22, 2026. Polls show a tight race between the SPD and CDU, with the AfD in third place.
