The CDU in Wiesbaden has reached an agreement with the Greens, Volt, the FDP, and Pro Auto on an exploratory paper. The proposed coalition excludes the SPD, as reported by the FAZ.

The exploratory paper proposes, among other things, regularly reviewing voluntary social benefits for their objectives, impact, and financial viability. In times of tight budgets, benefits are to be prioritized. The authors see misdevelopments in Wiesbaden’s social administration and want to curb mismanagement and benefit abuse.

On climate protection, the potential coalition partners commit to the city’s already established climate goals. A program to implement the climate plan for this legislative period is yet to be developed. The energy transition should be technology-neutral and financially feasible, the paper states.

The paper becomes more specific on transport: the ban on turning from Kaiser-Friedrich-Ring into Biebricher Allee is to be lifted. Additionally, the idea of a maglev train connecting the Ostfeld district in Erbenheim to the main train station is being discussed. Mayor Gert-Uwe Mende (SPD) expressed doubts about the stability of such a five-party coalition. Wiesbaden’s SPD sharply criticized the paper, calling it a slash-and-burn coalition with severe consequences for social cohesion.
