NATO will focus on expanding and sustaining military support for Ukraine at its summit on July 7-8 in Ankara, the Kyiv Post reports. Discussions are expected to center on reliable weapons deliveries, boosting defense production, and closer cooperation with Ukraine’s growing defense industry. The alliance also plans to review long-term defense spending and burden-sharing among member states.

Benedetta Berti, Secretary General of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, told World that the talks aim to keep supplying Kyiv with the military equipment needed to defend against Russia and “negotiate from a position of strength.” She said: “As you know, 99 percent of military aid to Ukraine comes from NATO allies. The discussions really focus on the upcoming NATO summit in Ankara. How do we move forward? How do we increase support? How do we ensure predictability? That is the priority at NATO right now.”

NATO leaders will meet in the Turkish capital Ankara amid ongoing global crises, including Russia’s war against Ukraine and the conflict in the Middle East. Berti referred to last year’s NATO summit in The Hague, where member states committed to raising defense spending to five percent of GDP by 2035—a “reset” of the alliance’s defense financing.
