The full closure affects state road 2088 between Munich and Unterföhring, one of the most important east-west arteries in the city’s north. The reason is clearing work on both sides for the planned four-lane expansion, according to the Freising State Building Authority.
Residents complain of chaotic conditions, as many drivers now cut through residential areas. Particularly affected is Leinthalerstraße, a shortcut north of the Aumeister. Cars pass every second, and during peak hours nothing moves. The Leinthalerbrücke next to the Föhringer Ring remains passable, but detours are significant: the next major Isar bridge to the north lies between Ismaning and Garching, to the south the John-F.-Kennedy-Brücke on the Isarring.
The Föhringer Ring is one of the busiest roads in and around Munich. The building authority expects up to 65,100 vehicles per workday by 2035. The stretch to be expanded is densely overgrown, requiring large-scale clearing to make room for future construction, access roads, and embankments.
