Mayor Dominik Krause (Greens) spoke of an “incredible enthusiasm and atmosphere in the city.” Compared to the other German bidders – Berlin and the Rhine-Ruhr region with Cologne – he emphasized: “Munich’s bid has a level of support that is second to none.” In a referendum in fall 2025, 66.4 percent of Munich residents voted in favor of a candidacy for the Summer Games in 2036, 2040, or 2044.
Bavaria’s Minister Markus Söder (CSU) expressed optimism: “A new summer fairytale is possible here in Munich.” He added: “Money and security will not be an issue in Bavaria.” Athletes also campaigned for the bid, including dressage rider Jessica von Bredow-Werndl, who won a total of four gold medals at the 2021 and 2024 Summer Games. She said: “Nothing can excite, inspire, and captivate the next generation like the Olympics.”
The event began in the morning at the Garden, one of the most modern multi-purpose halls in Europe, and continued in the afternoon at Nymphenburg Palace. The dressage event of the 1972 Olympics took place there – a similar event is planned for the new bid. The German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) will decide next fall which German bid will enter the international race.
