Deniz Undav turned the game around after coming on as a substitute against Ivory Coast, securing the second win in as many World Cup matches for the German team. Nadiem Amiri set up the equalizer, and Undav later scored the winning goal. Head coach Julian Nagelsmann proved to have a lucky hand with his substitutions.

Thanks to the draw between Ecuador and Curaçao, Germany can no longer be knocked off first place in Group E. The German national team will play a knockout match at a World Cup for the first time since the 2014 final. For Curaçao, the point against Ecuador is a minor sensation – the island nation celebrated its first-ever World Cup point.

In Group F, Tunisia lost 4-0 to Japan and has no chance of reaching the knockout stage. Japan now has four points after a 2-2 draw with the Netherlands. The Netherlands beat Sweden 5-1, with Brian Brobbey and Cody Gakpo each scoring twice.
