Patient Ombudsman Advocates for Opt-Out Organ Donation

In the debate over a potential paradigm shift in organ donation, the German government's patient ombudsman, Schwartze, is advocating for the so-called opt-out solution.

The opt-out solution would mean that every citizen is automatically considered an organ donor unless they have explicitly objected during their lifetime. Currently, Germany operates under an opt-in system: organ donation is only possible with explicit consent.

Schwartze, who serves as the federal government’s patient ombudsman representing the interests of patients, is campaigning for this system change.
