The district assembly (BVV) in Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg passed a resolution on Wednesday evening to preserve the RAW site. The Left, the Greens and the SPD voted in favor, the CDU abstained, and the two opposing votes came from the FDP. The resolution is titled: ‘The RAW must not become prey!’

For years, the district has been negotiating a new contract with the owner, the Kurth Group. The talks were declared a failure by both the owner and the district and the city. The resolution calls on the Kurth Group to resume negotiations and accept the contract offer from the district and the state senate. Venues – from the large Cassiopeia to the smallest studios – are to be preserved.

Sebastian Forck, spokesperson for the SPD on urban development and housing, demanded: ‘The owner must accept the district’s proposals.’ He called the investor’s pressure ‘despicable’. Building councilor Florian Schmidt (Greens) did not comment publicly on the discussions but hinted that new negotiations were possible. The resolution itself has no binding effect on the Kurth Group.
