Schnieder rejects criticism of infrastructure law

Federal Transport Minister Patrick Schnieder (CDU) has rejected criticism of his draft law to accelerate construction projects. Speaking to Deutschlandfunk, Schnieder said Germany has invested too little in infrastructure in recent years.

The CDU politician stressed on Deutschlandfunk that the country must now step on the gas. The draft law aims to shorten planning and approval procedures for transport projects.

Schnieder was responding to accusations that the law weakens environmental standards. He dismissed this and pointed to the need to quickly modernize the dilapidated infrastructure.
