Herbert Hainer, president of FC Bayern Munich, expressed disappointment over the basketball team’s lost championship. “A season without a title is anything but satisfactory for FC Bayern Basketball,” Hainer told the Abendzeitung München. The club had lost the game after a strong first half with a 20-point lead.
Hainer cited several factors for the first titleless season since 2022: the injury-related absence of newly signed point guard Rokas Jokubaitis, national team players worn down after the European Championship, and an extremely tight schedule with 86 games. “We simply lacked mental freshness at the end,” Hainer said. The squad now needs to be significantly improved.
Hainer also confirmed that Anton Gavel is set to come from Bamberg as the new coach. Talks with his previous club have been “very constructive and promising.” The new sporting leadership with Thorsten Leibenath from Ulm is also in place. Hainer praised his work: “He clearly has a good eye and is excellently connected.”
