Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov announced on Friday that the ministry had instructed the Defense Procurement Agency DOT to launch a new tender for 155mm artillery shells with extended range. All manufacturers and suppliers whose products meet the technical requirements may participate. For security reasons, the procedure will be conducted in a closed framework.
“Our goal is to gradually shift all categories of defense procurement to competitive procedures wherever possible,” Fedorov said. This allows for more efficient use of state funds, minimizes corruption risks, and supplies the armed forces with more necessary weapons. The tender is part of a broader reform aimed at replacing direct and emergency purchases with structured, competitive processes.
Fedorov noted that an earlier competition had already saved more than 16 percent of expected costs. The savings were used to purchase tens of thousands of additional shells. The 155mm rounds are central to the Ukrainian army’s ability to strike Russian command posts, ammunition depots, and logistics hubs far behind the front line.
