Among those honored is canoeist Liudmyla Luzan, who received the Order of Merit, third class. Luzan has won two Olympic silver medals and one bronze, and is an eight-time world champion.
Her partner in the two-person canoe, Anastasiia Rybachok, was awarded the Order of Princess Olga, first class. Rybachok has also won two Olympic silver medals and recently became double world champion in the 200 and 500 meters at the World Championships in Portugal.
Biathlete Anastasiia Merkushyna was also awarded the Order of Princess Olga, first class. She is the European champion of 2023 and 2026, vice world champion in the relay, and two-time world champion in summer biathlon.
In the president’s justification, it was stated that the athletes had made “significant contributions to strengthening Ukrainian statehood, courage and selflessness in defending the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, as well as a substantial personal contribution to the development of various spheres of public life.”
