World Cup 2026: Sportschau Experts Disagree on DFB Starting XI Paraguay

Ahead of Germany's round of 16 match against Paraguay at the 2026 World Cup, Sportschau experts are divided over the optimal lineup. According to Sportschau, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Almuth Schult, and Thomas Hitzlsperger are debating whether Leon Goretzka should start for more dueling strength.

The German national team faces Paraguay on Monday at 10:30 p.m. CEST in the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup. Coach Julian Nagelsmann’s side suffered their first tournament defeat in the final group match against Ecuador. Now they face another physically strong South American team in Paraguay.

Sportschau expert Bastian Schweinsteiger advocates for “no experiments” and relies on the established eleven – with returnee Nathaniel Brown on the left side of defense. Almuth Schult, however, would bring in Leon Goretzka for Aleksandar Pavlovic in midfield: “Because we need a good dueler and Pavlovic didn’t convince me in the last game.” Thomas Hitzlsperger, on the other hand, would field Deniz Undav instead of Kai Havertz up front.

The DFB team completes its final training session without any personnel issues. Nathaniel Brown is available again after overcoming adductor problems. The match will be broadcast on the Sportschau audio stream and ticker.
