Martín Demichelis starts at RB Leipzig earlier than expected

Martín Demichelis has completed his first day at RB Leipzig – and earlier than planned. The 45-year-old Argentine visited the training academy at Cottaweg on Sunday, as RB Leipzig announced in a video.

Together with sporting director Sebastian Schuppan, Demichelis was shown the facilities. His first impression: “very good, very nice,” RB recorded in a video. The Argentine succeeds Ole Werner and signed a two-year contract.

Demichelis most recently worked for Spanish first-division club Mallorca. RB football chief Jürgen Klopp was instrumental in bringing in the former Bayern player. In Leipzig, Demichelis will meet Mario Gomez, the technical director in Klopp’s team – both played together at Bayern Munich in the 2009/2010 season.

Managing director for sport Marcel Schäfer praised the new coach to “Bild”: “We want to win games. That comes through a tactical component, through a physical component. And there is this enthusiasm, this fire, this passion. Martin embodies all of that.”

Preseason starts on July 13 with a public training session. The first test match under Demichelis will take place on July 18 at 2:00 PM at the Markranstädt stadium against Altglienicke.
