The 40-year-old Anton Gavel takes over as head coach of FC Bayern Basketball. The former Bayern professional was most recently with the Bamberg Baskets and won the BBL Cup with them in 2026. He now succeeds Svetislav Pešić, who left after a titleless season.
The clubs had argued for weeks over a transfer fee. Gavel himself declared his contract in Bamberg invalid due to a formal error. Bayern’s president Herbert Hainer told the Munich AZ: “We have been in very constructive and promising talks in recent days and are very close to a solution.”
With Gavel, FCB gets a coach who won the championship with Ratiopharm Ulm in 2023.
