DFB Bernd Neuendorf spoke the day after the defeat against Paraguay, as reported by ZDFheute. Together with head coach Julian Nagelsmann and the sporting leadership including Andreas Rettig and Rudi Völler, he discussed the situation. “We agree that the performance at the World Cup does not meet our standards,” Neuendorf said.

The DFB president announced that the reasons for the failure would be analyzed in the coming days. “In the coming days, we will calmly and jointly examine why the team was unable to tap into its existing potential,” he explained. After such a setback, one cannot simply return to business as usual. Unlike at previous tournaments, there was no press conference — the statement remains the only official communication.

Nagelsmann himself had stated in a ZDF interview immediately after the match that he was willing to continue. He ruled out resigning, saying he is “not someone who runs away.” However, the final decision on his future is still pending.
