After another World Cup debacle for the German national team, head coach Julian Nagelsmann is under massive pressure. A number of former internationals have issued harsh verdicts on the state of the team.
DFB sporting director Rudi Völler, until now a supporter of Nagelsmann, no longer appeared fully convinced. “I am convinced that he is probably the right man to continue,” Völler said – a statement that reveals doubts. DFB president Bernd Neuendorf has announced talks for a tournament analysis but left open whether Nagelsmann would be allowed to take part.
Jürgen Klopp, who is working as a TV pundit in the USA, is being discussed as a possible successor. Sources close to him say the necessary wires are already being laid. However, parting ways with Nagelsmann could be expensive – his contract still runs for two years. In addition, Klopp would have to be extricated from his contract with Red Bull.
