NATO Summit: Ukraine to Receive €70 Billion in Military Aid Per Year

At the NATO summit in Ankara, Ukraine is set to receive a new multibillion-euro aid pledge. According to multiple news agencies, alliance states have agreed on a minimum funding of €70 billion per year for two years.

The planned pledge envisions providing a total of €140 billion over two years for military equipment, support, and training. An EU aid package is included: by the end of 2027, Ukraine is expected to receive around €60 billion from Brussels for defense-related spending. The remaining roughly €80 billion would have to come from NATO states’ national budgets.

Since the United States under Donald Trump has largely halted funding for Ukraine aid, Germany is expected to shoulder the largest share. For this year, the German government has already budgeted €11.5 billion for artillery, drones, and armored vehicles – the highest amount since the war began in 2022, according to the Defense Ministry.

The summit declaration is to be published next Wednesday at the conclusion of the two-day meeting in Ankara. Besides Ukraine aid, the draft also includes language envisioning greater European responsibility for defense and deterrence. Russia is again described as a permanent threat to Euro-Atlantic security.
