Two foreign female students were killed in a Russian airstrike on Kharkiv on June 29, just one day before they were to receive their medical diplomas, the Kharkiv National Medical University (KhNMU) reported.

Two foreign female students were killed in a Russian airstrike on Kharkiv on June 29, just one day before they were to receive their medical diplomas, the Kharkiv National Medical University (KhNMU) reported.

The two students of Kharkiv National Medical University (KhNMU) were on their way to a photo session ahead of their graduation ceremony on June 29 when Russian troops attacked the Kholodnohirskyi district with guided aerial bombs. One of the bombs hit the roadway, the university said on its website. Fatima Huseynova died at the scene. Nnanna Adaobi Marian succumbed to her severe injuries on July 5 in a German clinic.

The 23-year-old Nnanna Adaobi Marian had been studying at KhNMU since 2020 and completed internships at the University of Cambridge and Biruni University in Turkey. Her friend Fatima Huseynova had traveled from Germany specifically to receive her diploma on June 30. “Only one day was missing until the long-awaited day,” the university wrote. Huseynova died on June 29. Her body was transferred to Azerbaijan and buried in her home village of Arabgubaly in the Kurdamir district.

At least twelve people were injured in the attack on June 29, some of them seriously, according to the university. One person suffered blast injuries and burns. Russian forces continue their shelling of Kharkiv: On July 4, they attacked the city with combat drones, and on July 1 with guided aerial bombs, killing a 15-year-old boy and injuring at least 32 people, including children.
