Tadej Pogacar has won the first Pyrenean stage of the 113th Tour de France and taken the yellow jersey from Jonas Vingegaard. The Slovenian launched the decisive attack shortly before the finish.

The 195.9-kilometer stage led from Granollers in Spain to Les Angles in France. Pogacar attacked shortly before the finish and crossed the line two seconds ahead of Vingegaard, who finished second. Ecuador’s Richard Carapaz took third place, while German Florian Lipowitz finished seventh.

In the overall standings, Pogacar and Vingegaard are tied on time, but thanks to bonus seconds, the Slovenian leads the Dane by a narrow margin. Due to a forest fire in the region, organizers and authorities had called on fans not to come to the final sections of the route to avoid hindering emergency services. Nevertheless, numerous spectators lined the climbs.

The fourth stage from Carcassonne to Foix could offer opportunities for breakaway riders or robust sprinters. However, riders will have to contend with extreme heat, with temperatures expected to exceed 40 degrees Celsius.
