Canada, Germany and Norway have agreed on a strategic security partnership. According to a joint statement, Canada is joining the German-Norwegian Type 212CD submarine cooperation.

The leaders of Canada, Germany and Norway have agreed on a long-term security partnership. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, German Friedrich Merz and Jonas Gahr Støre announced the cooperation in a joint statement. The basis is Canada’s decision to join the German-Norwegian Type 212CD submarine project.

The three countries aim to expand their defense industrial and military cooperation. The joint statement emphasizes their willingness to take on more responsibility for transatlantic security and collective defense. The partnership is based on shared values and interests in times of profound geopolitical change, it said.

Beyond defense, the agreement covers strategic areas such as investment, energy, artificial intelligence, space and critical minerals. The three countries intend to deepen cooperation over decades in a spirit of friendship and trust.
