The 2026 World Cup is entering its decisive phase: only eight matches remain, starting with the quarter-finals. The spotlight is on the stars of the top national teams, especially the French squad around Kylian Mbappé and Michael Olise.
Olise, a winger for FC Bayern Munich, leads the list of top assist providers. He contributed 22 goals and 27 assists for his club last season. At the World Cup, he has not scored himself but has set up five goals: two each against Iraq and Sweden, and one for Mbappé against Senegal.
That puts Olise one assist ahead of Brahim Diaz (Morocco) and the already eliminated Brazilian Bruno Guimaraes. The Frenchman is now close to breaking the record for most assists at a single World Cup tournament. So far, only Pelé has achieved this, recording six assists in 1970 when Brazil won the title. Official statistics have been kept only since 1966. One more assist from Olise would tie him with the Brazilian legend.
