Pistorius Plans September Meeting with US Defense Secretary Hegseth

Boris Pistorius intends to travel to Washington and Texas in September for talks with his US counterpart Pete Hegseth. According to Ukrainska Pravda, citing Politico, a visit to the Pentagon and a possible bilateral meeting with Hegseth are planned.

Boris Pistorius intends to travel to Washington and Texas in September for talks with his US counterpart Pete Hegseth. According to Ukrainska Pravda, citing Politico, a visit to the Pentagon and a possible bilateral meeting with Hegseth are planned.

The five-day trip in mid-September includes, according to internal planning documents obtained by Politico, a stop at the Pentagon and a possible bilateral meeting with Hegseth. Officials are also considering meetings with members of the US Congress, representatives of the National Security Council, and defense industry leaders.

The trip ends with a ceremony to hand over an F-35 fighter jet to the German armed forces near Dallas-Fort Worth. In May, Pistorius canceled a planned North America trip after failing to arrange a meeting with Hegseth.

Background: German Friedrich Merz recently announced that the US government had approved the sale of Tomahawk cruise missiles to Germany. Pistorius also reaffirmed the intention to expand production of American weapons in Germany.
