Two rescued crew members of the tanker Gas Lisbon, attacked off Romania, report that three drones struck the vessel. The attack occurred about 20 nautical miles from the Romanian coast, according to Digi24 as cited by European Pravda.

The two sailors rescued from the Gas Lisbon gave an exclusive interview to Romanian broadcaster Digi24. Georgian crew member Alexander Megrelidze said he felt the first impact in his cabin. There were three hits in total. Despite the emotional strain, the crew followed protocol and began evacuating and treating three injured colleagues.

Another crew member, Alexander Arro, reported the attack occurred around 11 p.m. local time. He believes two drones struck first: one hit the engine room, the second hit the living quarters. A third drone hit the ship about three hours later. Romanian rescue teams arrived only four to five hours after the attack.

The tanker was en route from the Egyptian port of Alexandria to the Ukrainian Danube port of Reni. Romania’s president confirmed the attack on July 21. Acting Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha condemned Russian aggression and thanked Romania for rescuing the crew. On July 19, Russia had attacked the civilian vessel Golden Leo near Odesa, which was carrying grain, killing ten people.
