Schleswig-Holstein’s Minister Daniel Günther (CDU) assured the queer community of his solidarity. The CSD stands for a long and courageous struggle “to be able to live and love freely, equally, and without fear,” Günther wrote on Facebook. The events in Berlin painfully highlight how vulnerable this freedom is.
Lower Saxony’s Minister Olaf Lies (SPD) called the attack “despicable” and expressed his condolences to the family of the victim. Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania’s Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD) wrote on social media: “A celebration of love has turned into a night of mourning.” The perpetrator or perpetrators must be caught “and face the full force of our rule of law.”
Hamburg’s First Mayor Peter Tschentscher (SPD) ordered the city hall to fly flags at half-mast. The organization Hamburg Pride is planning a vigil for this afternoon at 4 p.m. in the city center at the corner of Neuer Jungfernstieg and Lombardsbrücke. Hamburg’s own CSD is scheduled for next weekend, with around 250,000 people expected. Security measures are being reviewed following the attack in Berlin.
