In the town in Bucha district, arms companies had demonstrated their air defense systems on July 24. Two Russian ballistic missiles struck the site, which according to residents has been used as a firing range for years. At least ten people died, about 100 were injured.
Resident Artem, whose house is next to the exhibition grounds, is clearing the rubble of his parents’ home. “My mother lived in this house for 20 years, and I have lived here since birth. My father also lived here; he was mobilized right after the invasion,” he told Suspilne. “Who allowed an exhibition next to residential buildings? They are constantly shooting at the training ground. One day my house was destroyed – thanks to those who organized the exhibition in a residential area.”
A neighbor suffered shrapnel wounds, according to Artem, and is in intensive care. Another resident, Stanislav, reported that almost nothing was left of his house after the impact. “We survived the occupation, and the house had held up – we bought it just before the invasion,” he said. His wife, who was at home at the time of the attack, was unharmed.
The police have cordoned off the area. The main organizer of the event was arrested and is under guard in the hospital. President Volodymyr Zelensky criticized the event as “exactly what should not have taken place at this location” and pointed to Russian terror as well as negligence on the part of the organizers.
