Switzerland has again expanded its sanctions against Russia in the wake of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. According to Ukrinform, Bern is following the latest decisions of the European Union (EU). In a press release, the Swiss government said nine individuals and 45 organizations had been added to Annex 8. The data of eleven people and companies already under sanctions were also updated.
The changes took effect on Tuesday, August 11, at 11:00 p.m. local time. Among those newly placed on the Swiss sanctions list are representatives of the Russian industry and defense sector. The sanctions particularly affect Rostec CEO Oleg Yevtushenko, former head of the United Shipbuilding Corporation Aleksey Rakhmanov, and businessman Takhir Garayev. Dozens of Russian organizations were also added to the sanctions list.
As reported, the EU Council adopted the 21st sanctions package against Russia on July 23 in response to the military aggression against Ukraine. On August 6, the British government imposed sanctions on Russia, particularly targeting LNG tankers and banks.
