Less than four weeks before the state election in Saxony-Anhalt, Wagenknecht told the “Bild” newspaper: “Our election goal is to vote out the CDU incumbent and replace him with a non-partisan minister-president who governs with a cabinet of experts and changing majorities. That means: also with the AfD.”
According to a current Insa poll, the AfD would currently get 42 percent in Saxony-Anhalt, the BSW five percent. CDU, Left, and SPD together would reach 41 percent. If the BSW abstained in the third round of the minister-president election, an AfD candidate could become head of government with a simple majority.
Wagenknecht said with regard to the AfD: “It is simply completely undemocratic to permanently exclude a party that is voted for by around 40 percent of voters. The firewall has failed.”
On Wednesday evening, the top candidates of seven parties will face questions from citizens on Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk (MDR), including Sven Schulze (CDU) and his AfD challenger Ulrich Siegmund.
