According to Ukraine’s Defense Ministry, Russian forces lost 42,860 soldiers killed or severely wounded in July. This is the highest figure since January 2025, the ministry said. The estimates are largely based on geolocated drone footage.
Russia also lost 13,998 vehicles in July, including cars, trucks, and motorcycles – a record since the start of the full-scale invasion in February 2022. Kyiv puts Russia’s total personnel losses at 1,461,660 soldiers.
Ukrainian troops say they have liberated about 745 square kilometers in the south and brought 26 settlements along a 60-kilometer-wide front under control. The operation took place near the border of the Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, and Zaporizhzhia regions. President Volodymyr Zelensky said an additional 300 square kilometers of “gray zone” had been cleared of Russian forces.
Independent OSINT researchers and think tanks largely confirm the Ukrainian advances, though estimates of the exact size of the liberated area vary. Ukraine also ran an intensive drone campaign that struck Russian supply convoys in the south, destroying at least 400 trucks carrying fuel and ammunition.
