Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform that the naval blockade against Iran remains “in full force and effect.” He also stated that all sea mines in the Strait of Hormuz have been removed or detonated. Before the war began in late February, a fifth of global oil transit flowed through the strait.
The remarks follow a 60-day negotiation phase between Washington and Tehran that ended without a clear agreement. Stock markets largely declined on Tuesday, and interest rates rose. Earlier, the British maritime information center UKMTO reported that a projectile had struck a ship as it was leaving the Strait of Hormuz.
Meanwhile, Syria, the United States, and Turkey condemned Israeli airstrikes on a Syrian military airbase. Eight Israeli airstrikes hit the unused Abu al-Duhur base in Idlib province early Tuesday, about 70 kilometers from the Turkish border. Turkey is a key ally of Syria’s transitional government, which has been in power since the fall of Bashar al-Assad in December 2024.
