The incident occurred at the Brinell School in the small town of Fagersta, northwest of Stockholm. The person entered the school building and was later arrested by police. According to the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet, the person was armed with a machete and was stopped with a shot to the leg.
Authorities initially gave no details on the exact number of injured. Swedish Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer told broadcaster SVT: “The police are on site and are working very intensively on the incident.” Schools were evacuated, and police said there was no danger to the public.
In recent years, Sweden has seen several attacks at schools. In February 2025, a 35-year-old former student in Örebro killed ten people and himself – the worst gun attack in the country’s history. In 2022, an 18-year-old in Malmö stabbed two female teachers to death, and in 2015, an attacker in Trollhättan killed three people with a sword.
