Several people were injured in a sword attack at a school in Fagersta, Sweden, on Friday. Police have arrested a man, and local authorities have locked down several other schools as a precaution.

Police were called to the Brinell School in Fagersta, central Sweden, shortly after 2:00 p.m. local time on Friday. Local authorities said several people were injured but did not give an exact number. Swedish media report that the suspect was shot in the leg by police.

The municipality of Fagersta said police searched the building and locked down eight other schools as a precaution. Officers later said there was no longer any danger to the public. Ulf Kristersson called the incident “serious” on X and said the motive was not yet known.

Sweden has seen repeated attacks on schools in recent years. In 2025, the country’s deadliest mass shooting killed eleven people in Örebro, including the gunman, prompting the government to tighten gun laws. In 2022, two teachers were killed in Malmö, and in 2015, a sword attack in Trollhättan left a teacher and a student dead.
