The CDU politician arrived in the Ukrainian capital. He condemned Russia’s increasing drone and missile attacks, accusing Moscow of “indiscriminate murder of civilians” and the deliberate destruction of energy infrastructure. Russia, he said, wants to destroy people’s livelihoods and break their will to resist.
Wadephul stressed that the holiday weeks of July and August were the deadliest for Ukraine’s civilian population in more than four years. “Russia never fired more rockets at its neighbor than it does now,” he said. Every day, people are “robbed of the future the whole country hopes for.”
The minister assured Ukraine of continued support, hoping this would bring Russia to the negotiating table. No country invests as much in military and financial support for Ukraine as Germany. Ukraine urgently needs ammunition for its air defense, and the capital Kyiv is under massive shelling.
This is Wadephul’s fourth visit since taking office 16 months ago. For security reasons, the trip was not announced publicly, and the program in Kyiv is not being disclosed. The focus is on military support, preparations for winter, and deepening security cooperation.
