The Ukrainian An-28, functioning as a "hunter against Shahed drones," has shot down 213 Russian drones since its modification. This information comes from a report by the New York Times, which describes the markings on the aircraft. The modification allows the An-28 to transport and deploy up to six drones simultaneously.
Additionally, the An-28 is equipped with an optical system that enables visual identification of aerial targets. This technology allows for a more efficient engagement of Russian Shahed drones using cost-effective interceptor drones instead of expensive air-to-air missiles.
Military analyst Ivan Kyrychevskyi stated to the military portal Militärynyj that equipping the An-28 with interceptor drones is an effective solution in the fight against Russian aggression. Anatolij Khrapchynskyi, the director of a defense company, confirmed that Ukraine has significantly enhanced its capabilities to combat Russian drones.
