The EU foreign ministers agreed on Monday during a meeting to impose new sanctions against Israeli settlers and organizations accused of supporting illegal settlement activities in the West Bank. This decision came after Bezalel Smotrich presented a plan to appropriate strategic areas in the West Bank, raising questions about the EU's decision.
Smotrich stated on platform X that he had presented a plan to Benjamin Netanyahu to seize strategic areas in zones A, B, and C of the West Bank. He criticized the EU, labeling its actions as "European hypocrisy" and emphasized that Israel cannot be forced to pursue a policy of national suicide.
The minister also called for strengthening settlements and deepening control over what he referred to as "Israel's land." He stressed that the West Bank is crucial for Israel's security and that any attempt to weaken control over these areas would have serious consequences.
The Oslo Accords, signed in 1993 between Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization, were intended to serve as a framework for Palestinian self-governance and the establishment of a future Palestinian state. Smotrich's recent statements contradict these agreements and raise questions about the future developments in the West Bank.
