55 Ships Pass Strait of Hormuz Iran’s Closure Claim

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) reported that 55 commercial vessels transited the Strait of Hormuz on June 20, contradicting Iran's claim that the waterway had been closed. US Donald Trump threatened to impose tolls on ships if no agreement with Tehran is reached.

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on X that 55 commercial vessels transited the Strait of Hormuz on June 20. The ships carried more than 17 million barrels of oil to global markets. CENTCOM stated that safe passage through the international waterway had been uninterrupted, directly refuting Iran’s claim that the strait had been closed.

US Donald Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform that no tolls would be imposed during the current 60-day ceasefire. However, if negotiations with Iran fail, the US could levy tariffs on ships using the Strait of Hormuz. Trump called the US the “guardian angel of the Middle Eastern countries” and demanded reimbursement for security costs.

Iran’s Anbiya command had previously announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, citing Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon. The Iranian leadership described the strikes as a violation of the interim agreement with the US and threatened further steps if the “aggression” continues.
